The entries excerpted relate to the quantities of all tobaccos imported
and such other merchandises as came from Virginia. Each entry gives
the name of the importing merchant, that of the ship's master, the place
of freighting, details of the goods imported, the subsidy due on these, and
the additional duty levied on certain classes of imports, including tobacco.
Entries after the 2nd April 1672, are torn off and lost.

the Subsidy (§., s., d.) and then the Additional Duty (§., s., d.).

the ship is given, the ship's master and its destination. In very few cases
are the valuations entered, but the subsidy payable is stated after each
merchant's list of goods to be exported.
In the "Prince" (ship), master, Robert Conway, for Virginia, Nov 1672:
THOMAS STEPHENS, 250 lbs. shoes, 2 single bayes, 24 lbs. serges,
140 yds. cottons, 100 lbs. haberdashery wares, 12 doz. worsted, 8 doz.
woollen men's hose, 2 doz. felt, 6 castor hats, 2½ cwt. Apothecary's wares,
1 chest window glass, 1200 lbs. nails, 2 cwt. wrought iron, 1 cwt. brass,
