Benjamin Stevens of Andover, youngest son of the first John, also of Andover,
was a Captain and Magistrate died 1730, without male issue.

Cyprian Stevens of Lancaster had come about 1660 from London in his youth
under 14 yrs. of age, where his father, Thomas lived, who was perhaps that
armorer of Buttolph lane, who contract with our Governor and Company there in
March 1629 for supply of arms, was a member of the company and beside giving
L50 to the company stock, sent us three sons and daughter Mary, as his
adventure in our cause; and one of the signers of the instruction to Captain
Endicott before his company, for which see Hutch. I 9 in note, though the family
was of Devonshire in earlier days. He perhaps was first at Rumney Marsh, now
Chelsea. Cyprian the major married 22 Jan 1672 to Mary Willard, daughter of
Simon Willard. Children:
1. Cyprian b. 22 Nov 1672
2. Mary m. Samuel Wright of Rutland
3. Dorothy d. young
4. Simon
5. Elizabeth
6. Joseph
Some of these children were, perhaps not born at Lancaster for in the great war
of 1675/76 he had been driven by the Indians to make his residence nearer
Boston, probably in some of the interval, at Sudbury, and had authority to
receive an Indian child of six years of age, probably of a friendly tribe whose
father might be servant in our ranks; but he went back, after the peace, to
Lancaster.

Edward Stevens of Boston, by wife Mary had Thomas b. 15 Apr 1669.

Edward Stevens of Marshfield, probably some time between 1665 and 1691.

Edward Stevens of Boston, who married 8 Oct 1700 to Rebecca (Josselyn)
Croakham Harris (widow of #1 John Croakham, widow of #2 Thomas Harris),

a householder in 1695.

Ephraim Stevens of Andover, son of John, also of Andover, died 26 June 1718

7. Mehitable b. 10 Sep 1700

Erasmus Stevens of Boston, by wife Elizabeth had John b. 16 Aug 1671 and
Mary 1673, but the month and year are lost by the leaf of record being torn. He
probably kept an inn, for in 1686, a poor Carolina overseer of a plantation
having been made prisoner by pirates, and escaped from them at Casco, was by
Edward Randolph, collector of our port, referred to him for food and clothing.
See 3 Mass. Hist. Coll. VII. 157.

Francis Stevens of Rehoboth, in 1658 had division of lands there in that year
and ten years later, his invoice of 1 Jan 1670 shows that he was then dead and
being call Senior, makes it probable that he had a son.

Francis Stevens of Rehoboth, who had Gilbert b. 26 Feb 1675 and his wife,
Elizabeth was buried six days after.

George Stevens of Boston, a cooper, died Oct 1655 and by his will, giving all his
little property to Isaac Collimore, so that he may well be thought unmarried and
only transaction.

Henry Stevens of Boston, a stone mason, as the church record calls him, came
in the "Defence" 1635 from London, aged 24, living in the part called Muddy
River, now called Brookline, by wife Alice, on London custom she embarked 2
July in the "Abigail" on the same day with her husband (no doubt an error by the
clerk) aged 22. Children: (1, 2 & 3, baptised 18 June 1643, on the same day
their mother joined the church along with Deborah age 25, baptised 27 Apr
1645).

Henry Stevens, of Lynn in 1634, servant to John Humprey Esquire, and for
burning his master's home was in 1640 sentenced to 21 years service as in Col.
Rec. I. 311, who may be compared with the detail in Winth. II. 13.

Another Henry Stevens, perhaps of Stonington in 1670, by letter of 29 June
1675 and an inhabitant of Swanzey, perhaps son of Francis of Rehoboth is
giving the first account of the outbreak of Phillip's War (see Mass Hist. Col. X.
117). He may have removed to Stonington after this destruction and there
married Elizabeth Callop, daughter of that brave Captain John Callop who fell in
the great swamp fight.

Another Henry Stevens, was a proprietor of New Haven in 1685, died 1689,
married 6 Feb 1678 to Joanna Leeke, daughter of Philip Leeke. Children:

at Muddy River for while during his absence in 1674, the father of her husband
engaged to furnish a home.

Jeremiah Stevens of Boston, a young man, died early in Oct 1663, perhaps sent
by his father to deal out books, for of his invoice amounted to L72 4s. 11 1/2d.
they made up L68 17s. 5d.

John Stevens of Hingham, had division of land in 1638, may have removed.

John Stevens of Newbury, perhaps came in the "Confidence" from
Southhampton in 1638, aged 31, having lived at Caversham in County of Oxford,
but Drake in Genealogy Reg. XIV. 335 reads the name of the Parish Gonsham.
This is the more strange, from his explanation in note, and especially since the
error in G. R. II. 109 had been pointing out in G. R. IV list of errata after page
385. In old chirogr. as first vol. of Boston records the capital C much resembles
G. Caversham is the most South part of Oxfordshire, close to Reading in Berks.
John died 11 Apr 1662 aged 56 years, leaving widow Elizabeth which probably
he brought from England and she died 1 May 1694 aged 80. Children:
1. John b. 20 June 1639

John Stephens of Dover, of which no more is known, but that he was on the list
in 1662. He may have lived in Marlblehead in 1668 to petition against imposts.
(imposters?).

John Stevens of Andover, son of John, also of Andover, married 13 June 1662 to
Hannah Barnard (died 13 Mar 1675), daughter of Robert Barnard of Andover.
Had it may be, several children besides Jonathan who died 15 June 1674 and
Nathan, but we have from the town only records of marriage and deaths. John
married 2nd on 10 Aug 1676 to Esther Barker, daughter of Richard Barker, and

9 Mar 1670 to Mary Chase, daughter of Aquila Chase Sr. Children:
1. Mary b. 6 Feb 1671
2. Thomas b. 3 July 1676 (perhaps removed after being admitted a freeman in
1669 to Chelmsbord, for one of the names that died there in June 1691 was
Thomas)

Jonathan Stevens, a soldier in Philip's war, of the Connecticut forces, severely
wounded was probably of Guilford or Killingworth, then called Kenilworth.

by the Indians with Rev. Joseph Willard, Yale 1714, minutes of the town; when
the others, Phineas, and Isaac were by thwm (?) carr. (?) capt. to Canada.
Phineas was much disting.(?) for military service.

Josiah Stevens of Braintree, perhaps brother of the preceding, died 19 June
1677.

Nathan Stevens the first born of Andover, died there Feb 1719, says the records
which calls him cornet; but I find not evidence of any wife or children.

Nathaniel Stevens of Dover, perhaps son of John also of Dover, though Mr.
Quint marks him as first of the stock. By wife Mary, had:

mother, I hear not the names.

Richard Stevens of Concord, perhaps that son of Thomas, the London armorer,
d. 1683. If my conjecture be right, his widow and only daughter, says Willard, in
note to Barry, went home.

Richard Stevens of Taunton, named 1689 as one of the inhabitants to who
William Bradford made confirmation granted. (Stephens Version 4 says
Richard b. 1641 in Little Sudbury, Glucestershire, England, d. 1726 in

son-in-law of Joshua Rea of Salem. His widow Rebecca had administration of
Will and daughter Sarah is mentioned.

Samuel Stevens of Marlborough, son of Richard, perhaps brought by his father,
was a deacon early in eighteenth century.

Thomas Stevens of Sudbury, may be the youth in the "Abigail", from London,

home and come again, with Cyprian, and was a freeman 1665. Was the town

up.

Thomas Stevens of Guilford, in 1650, son of John, also of Guilford, probably
born in England, removed to Killingworth, or as by its first settlers call. from their
native place in Old England in 1665, Kenilworth, but why the name was
degraded to its modern form is beyond the knowledge of any in the last three or
four generations, yet easily conjectured. He was among the freemen in 1699,
representative in 1671 of Killingworth, but before that plantation was settled he
had by wife Mary, several children born at Guilford, though larger part may be
claimed, possibly by Killingworth.

prefix, of resp. had desire early in 1634, to build a floating battery for protection
to Boston as in Col. Rec. I. 113 and 120, selectman 1642 and after,
representative in 1644. He had built many large ships at London, before he
came hither, I suppose in 1632, for in January after, Emanuel Downing write in
London to the Rt. Hon. Sir John Coke, principal Secretary of State, that from
high authority he hears, that he is "so able a man, as they believe there is hardly
such an other to be found in this kingdom." See the letter in 3 Mass. Hist. Coll.
VIII. 324. He had baptised at Salem on 26 Jan 1640, Isaac and Mary (twins?);
Ruth 7 Mar 1641 who married on 7 Oct 1663 to Stephen Glover; James the
oldest: William the youngest. Whether all were by wife, Philippa, or when he or
she died is unknown.

William Stevens of Newbury, may be that passenger in the "Confidence" from
Southampton in 1638, aged 21, probably brother of John, a fellow passenger.
Both from Coversham in Oxfordshire, and was not, I think as Farmer said, the
first settlers at Salem. Freeman with John on 18 May 1642. Died 19 May 1653,
probably sudden as his will has that same date. It was probated 30 June 1653,
names only children as Jon and Samuel, made wife Elizabeth executrix. Married
on 19 May 1645 to Elizabeth Bidfield, daughter of Samuel Bidfield. Children (as

William Stevens of Killingworth, in 1665, where he removed from Guilford,
brother of Thomas also of Killingworth. Born in England, freeman in 1669. When
he died is not marked, but it was probably before 1685, when among proprieters
of Guilford no other of the name, besides Nathaniel is found. Yet he may have
been of Killingworth at that time and given his estate to Nathaniel. Others of his
children did settle at Guilford. Married on 3 Mar 1653 to Mary Meigs (died 30 Apr
1703), daughter of John Meigs. Children:

William Stevens of Charlestown, married on 1 July 1673 to Abigail Green, so
common a name that it is perilous to conjecture who was her father.

William Stevens of Gloucester, eldest son of James Stevens of Goucester. Mr
Babson says he died 24 Sept 1701. Married on 15 June 1682 to Abigail Sargent,
probably daughter of William Sargent

A widow, Ann Stevens, perhaps the mother of John and William of the same,
died at Newbury July 1650.

A widow Stephens, died at Newton, L. I. 1656
