Nathaniel Powell of Bristol, soapboiler, to go to Virginia and serve him for a
term of 4 years, etc. (as registered in vol. "Servants to Foreign Plantations").

WILLIAM STEPHENS, the younger of Bristol, linendraper,: Deposition that about
19th September 1664 his father WALTER STEPHENS of Bristol, linendraper,
delivered to Richard Collins late of Bristol, merchant, now deceased, the goods
in the annexed bill, to value totalling §27, 18s, 5d. The goods were put on board
the "William and Anne" of Bristol, and were to be disposed of by Collins in Virginia
for the account of WALTER STEPHENS. Collins gave a receipt for the goods and
undertook to make a return of the proceeds. Attached account entitled "Invoyce of
a Trunck of goods sent by Richard Collins in the "William and Anne" to Virginia the
19th Sept. 1644". The goods included shirts, linen and other cloth, gloves, bed ticking,
tapes, cords and laces. Quantities and values given.

28 March 1721. Mr. Erle, Member of Parliament for Bristol, and MR. FRANCIS
STEVENS, representing the owners of the ship "Callabar Merchant" of Bristol.
presented a letter dated 22 March 1720/21 from the Secretary to the Treasury
asking the Commissioners to investigate the case of this ship, which had been
plundered by pirates off the African coast. The pirates had presented the master
with certain slaves as a token for the looted cargo, but these slaves had been
seized and forfeited to His Majesty by order of Colonel Spotswood on the ship's
later arrival in Virginia. The Commissioners gave directions for preparing an answer
to the Treasury.

13 March 1750/1. Read a letter dated 16 January 1750/1 from Mr. James
Crokatt giving proposals for the encouragement of the production of
"Pot Ashes, Pearl Ashes and all other Wood and Weed Ashes: in the
American Plantations. The Commissioners also read a memorial by MR.
THOMAS STEVENS on the same subject and subsequently discussed
the matter with both Mr. Crokatt and MR. STEVENS. Orders were given
for the preparation of a draft letter to the Commissioners of H.M.'s Treasury
on the subject.

Commissioners for Trade & Plantations. "York in Virginia" 8 Feb 1757.
Reporting a further progress in his tour of the American Colonies to
encourage the establishment of works for the local production of "Pot
Ash", describing the favourable reception of his ideas in Virginia and
mentioning Mr. Carter and Colonel William Randolph in that connection.
f. 350 is a cover sheet and is endorsed "received 30 March: read 31
March 2757".

Captains Newham and Whiting sailed for Virgina today. (Their ships may be the
"Amy" and the "Whitaker", and they had gone to Savannah from England).

25 July 1738. Savannah. WILLIAM STEPHENS to the Trustees:
One of the misfortunes of the Colony has been the lack of enough
of what they call "Virginia Corn, which is large, broad, & white, &
usually grows well here". Yellow-skinned corn was brought instead
and does not do well in the warm climate.

30 September 1630. Draft order of Privy Council to Governor and
Council of Virginia to investigate impartially complaints by John
Pott, late Governor of the Plantation, that he is now dismissed
the Council and held prisoner without cause shown or opportunity
to answer. If complaint is true, Pott is to be released and restored
to Council; if untrue, all facts to be reported. Francis Pott, brother
of John, has petitioned the King, who has given especial command
to do this.

30 September 1630. Draft letter from Privy Council to Governor and
Council of Virginia. Same subject as above. Council has read two
certificates from CAPTAIN RICHARD STEPHENS of the Council of
Virginia and Captain Thomas Willowby against John Pott, but Council
does not give credit to such complaints against a man employed in
Pott's capacity. Justice shall be done quickly and Pott given a hearing.
