communications to Fort Littleton. Has written to Col. Washington.

march on 1st of June with men of the 1st and 2nd Virginia Regiments. Details
concerning the regiments. Sending Col. Byrd with one half of his regiment to
Fort Cumberland. Likewise, Col. Washington with one half of his regiment.
Letter from President Blair. Will not take the King's arms from the Governor's
House at Williamsburg. Needs them to make war on the Cherokees. Men to
be sent to him.

Ourry to Bouquet, Fort Bedford, Aug 27, 1763. Note of the arrival on the 19 August
of COL. STEPHENS and 98 volunteers. Some of his parties have been very successful
against the Indians in Virginia and Maryland.

Stanwix to Bouquet, Pittsburgh, Sept. 13, 1759. Col. Byrd arrived with 350 of his
regiment. Left 120 of Artificers company at Ligonier to mend the road. Have had
one convoy of flour from Virginia. Should soon have quantity of hogs from Virginia.
Fears COL. STEVENS and the rest of the Virginia regiment may have left Ligonier.

Bouquet to Stanwix, Ft. Bedford, Sept 16, 1759. LT. COL. STEPHEN marched lately.
Goods from Virginia not yet procured, for takes time to advertise "& put the people in
motion." But Lt. Col. Mercer has had good success. Suggests sending Mercer a bill
on Nelson for §1000. Virginia. "There is no danger to intrust him with that sum, having
a good fortune at home."

Monckton to Bouquet, Fort Bedford, Oct. 30, 1760. Has received letter from Gov. Fauquier
stating that Assembly voted that their men be sent down to protect the Virginia frontier.
Monckton sees no chance of getting Pennsylvanians, so orders that Virginians be detained
and distributed, regardless of any contrary orders COL. STEPHENS might receive. Wrote
Gov. Fauquier a second time on receipt of orders to send detachment to Detroit, and hopes
this might change Assembly's orders.

Monckton to Bouquet, Philadelphia, Nov 13, 1760. Encloses details for garrisons of several
posts. Notwithstanding former orders, each garrison to be taken equally from Americans
(Royal American Regiment ?) and Virginians. Hopes to get 30-40 men from Niagara if Amherst
lets Virginians go. Demand for men from Virginia was for 300 rank and file with proportionate
officers. Excess over that can be sent back. COL. STEPHENS has leave to go to Virginia,
and command of Regiment devolves on Major Stewart.

Monckton to Bouquet, Phila., Dec. 7, 1760. Wrote COL. STEPHEN or Maj. Stewart,
commanding the Virginians, that in consequence of Gov. Fauquier's request they are
to march to Winchester. Whether all or part are to be detained until arrival of more
English troops is up to Bouquet. Sends a march route for the Virginians. Because of
problems in supplying upper posts, suggests ordering Virginians to Pittsburgh
immediately.

Bouquet to Monckton, Fort Pitt, Dec. 20, 1760. Is pleased can detain Virginians at
his discretion, for needs them. Praises Major Stewart. Mentions COL. STEPHENS
as being ill.

Monckton to Bouquet, New York, Aug 24, 1761. Wonders if is error in accounts of
batteaux--an officer of the Virginians and CAPT. STEPHENS paid at about the same
time for the same number of Virginians. (see f. 252 for Bouquet's comment that he
knows nothing about these accounts).

Thos. Gage to Bouquet, New York, Nov 18, 1763. Discusses expedition proposed by
Bouquet in conjunction with COL. STEPHEN. Can carry it out, with Crown defraying
expenses, if not too late in year.

Gage to Bouquet, New York, Aug 18, 1764. Received his letter of 10 August with copy
of Lt. Gov. Fauquier's letter to Mr. Rutherford. COL. STEPHENS conduct blameable.
Bouquet correct in mentioning it to Fauquier, and Gage will do likewise. Praises Col.
Lewis. Wishes Lewis could get his people to take route Bouquet suggested.

in Virginia. Conduct of COL. STEPHENS is highly blameable. Has been obliged to
ask Gov. Fauquier to appoint another commander ot the militia on the Virginia frontier.
Begs Gage to approach Fauquier on this.
