I was looking through Civil War books a USM and a book written about the school
and the General. I will have to go through a lot of papers to get there. I will try. I had a couple of Stories in the People Helper. I looked...

2 sources USM McCain Lib:
A Light on a Hill by Robbie Neal Sumrall
General Lowery's Unpublished Manuscript
That quote may have come from another source, I will keep my eyes open.
What information do you have or are you looking for and are you familiar with the above?
I noticed there was a Stephens married to a Lowery and I was wondering, if
(the
General's mother) Mrs.. Lowery, already had family living in Mississippi
when her husband (I think, from memory) died and she moved to Mississippi.
I had planned on redoing my Grandfather story and General and where the
General was, so was my Grandfather, generally .

I am originally from Prentiss County and in doing research on my old
GG/Grandpappy (26th Miss. Inf.), I run across stuff from the 32nd Miss.
from
time to time. I will copy and make notes if it will help you. Just
yesterday, I found a pix of the 1905 Confederate reunion and a 1910 reunion
photo with my old GG/Grandpappy right up front in his black hat and long
beard...right proud looking old boys, they were...the reunions were at Bay
Springs Lodge, east of Booneville. If you know where you ancestor is
buried,
I will check this out also. I have available to me, cemetary books from
Prentiss, Alcorn, Tishomingo, and Lee counties.....Also, I talked to a
cousin the other day, and he said that a couple of his folks named English
fought in the 32nd.....J.R. Green

Steve:
According to records retrieved from the National Archives, my g-g
grandfather,
Jefferson Milam was enlisted in Co C, by M. P. Lowery on 8 March, 1862, as
a
Pvt.  He was 42 old at the time and lived with his family near Booneville.
Subsequent to his enlistment he became ill and was evacuated to Tupelo, MS,
where he was reported to have died of disease on 25 June 1862.  His oldest
son
, William Milam, who was 18 and from Booneville, was enlisted by M. P.
Lowery
in Co C, on 13 Apr 1862.  William, according to his Archive Record, also
became sick shortly after enlisting and was returned home on leave.
William
recovered from his illness, returned to his unit and served until 19
September
1863, when he was killed on the 1st day of the Battle of Chickamauga.

Do you have any records of the disposition of soldiers who died in the
hospital at Tupelo?  Do you know of any listing and disposition of soldiers
killed at Chickamauga?

Tom....I just remembered that I have a list of 32nd Miss. veterans that
applied for pensions in Miss. after 1900. If you don't already have them,
just let me know, and I will send them to you. Also, I believe I remember
seeing a copy of the original, handwritten enlistment rolls, by company for
the 32nd up in Booneville. I will be up that way Monday, and will check it
out....Later....J. R. Green
